X-Men: First Class Details!

X-Men #1
Comics Continuum has posted some comments Laura Shuler Donner made on Fox Movie Channel’s Life after Film School regarding the proposed X-Men spinoff X-Men: First Class. While originally thought to focus on the younger mutants seen around Xavier’s school in the first 3 films, it’s clear now that it will be true to it’s title and follow the early adventures of the original X-Men. She is quotes as saying:

It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun… I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories and weave them back into the X-Men world …and hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.

The question is being that Iceman and Angel, founding X-Men in the comics, were not among Xavier’s first students in the films, will this will fit in with that continuity or be a complete restart? Since she does seem to make a point of only mentioning Scott, Jean and Beast it would leave us to believe this would serve as a prequel. Especially since they want to carry on the X-Men Origins franchise, it would be odd to have a reboot while films based on the originals are still being made. I don’t care too much either way as long as Cyclops finally gets his due! I’m a Wolverine fanatic with the best of em but it was damn shame how badly his character was shafted in those films. With Wolverine dominating his own franchise now, maybe some of the other wonderful characters will finally have room to shine!
