U.S. Death Note Adaptation Coming (is that a threat or a promise?)

Death Note

Warner Bros has aquired the rights to Japan’s popular Death Note manga and plans to adapt the first 3 installments of the 13 volume series into a new live action movie.

While I have yet to read the manga, I recently really got into the Japanese films and anime series. The story revolves around a teenage student who comes across a notebook dropped by a Shinigami (Death God), this notebook gives it’s bearer the power to kill anyone simply by writing their name.

Being the optimist that I am, I won’t immediately assume this will be another watered down American bastardization. I do look forward to seeing what they can do with a bigger budget, one weakness of the Japanese films being it’s cheesy looking cgi. This is a great chance to really explore the Shinigami Realm in depth and truly bring Ryuk and his bizarre brethren to life!

Oh by the way, you can read the entire manga for free right here.

  1. I really liked what I saw of the Japanese series. I’m a little nervous…
